Galician Octopus Amigurumi Pattern

I like to think in Suenhos Blanditos as a great family that despite the distance, meets to enjoy a common passion: The amigurumis.

From several places and backgrounds, speaking different languages, men, women, young, old, each and every one of us are connected by those little yarn dolls that we like so much and to which we add a little bit of us.

Today I want to show you a little bit of me and tell you about a celebration of my land, Galicia.

It’s about the Day of the Galician Letters (Día das Letras Galegas) that is celebrated every year on May 17th, to commemorate the edition of “Cantares Gallegos” by Rosalía de Castro that same day of 1863 and that marked the beginning of the “Rexurdimento” or the Galician cultural renaissance.

Every year, the Galician Royal Academy chooses an outstanding personality from the Galician literary and cultural field to pay tribute to him or her for the contribution and defense of our language.

This year, the day of the Galician Letters is dedicated to Antonio Fraguas, an intellectual born in Pontevedra whose cultural contribution included archeology, geography, history, art, ethnography and dissemination.

As a detail, to remind you of my beautiful land, Galicia, I want to give you the pattern of this cute octopus, which besides being a representative icon of our gastronomy, is crocheted with the colors of our flag: sky blue and white.

I hope you like it!

How to crochet the union of the fingers of our Amigurumis

People, animals, objects… when it comes to designing an amigurumi everything is possible with a little imagination and some basic ideas.

This time I want to show you how to join several tubular pieces, such as fingers, so that you can easily start from them, giving rise to many other parts of your amigurumis.

As an example we are going to join 3 pieces, but you can join much more. Just keep in mind that it is a linear union, that is, each piece will be next to another and at the same level.

We start by crocheting each piece separately. We will make simple pieces, all 3 of the same size:

1. Work 6 sc in magic ring.
2. to 5. 1 sc in each st (6).
Crochet 2 pieces completely and fasten off, that is, cut the thread. Finish the third piece also completely, but don’t cut the thread to continue crocheting on the other two and thus be able to join them. Continue reading How to crochet the union of the fingers of our Amigurumis

Safe Amigurumis for Babies

Hello!

When designing the amigurumis in the farm, in addition to ensuring that the pattern is clear, simple, well explained and gives rise to a cute doll, I have a great responsibility: that the design is adequate for the most vulnerable,  babies and small children.

Whether you are a designer or weaver, father, mother, grandparent or simply want to have a detail with that little loved one, you must have in mind certain requirements that amigurumis must satisfy to fully guarantee the safety of the child.

Pecosa, the craftswoman who gives work to Peruvian women

In my previous post I talked about the different physical and emotional benefits that crocheting amigurumis gives us.

This time I want to talk about how amigurumi can open new horizons in the professional field and how great things can be achieved with effort and perseverance.

This is the example of Katia Horbatiuk and “Pecosa” the amigurumis brand that she has created in Peru.

This young Ukrainian girl, passionate on crochet since she was a little girl, has turned her passion into a way of life and an entrepreneurial project that provides work for dozens of Peruvian women with difficulties accessing the labor market.

Proud to be a weaver, Katia began her project in 2013 through Facebook. Overwhelmed by the increasing number of requests she received, she sought help from other women, thus initiating an important training and employment program: “Pecosa en casa”.

Crochet and Amigurumis as Therapy

Sometimes we forget that on the other side of a message there is a real person, of flesh and blood, with problems, concerns, in short, a life.

Through this passion that joins us, I have discovered that crocheting amigurumis is more than making a doll with yarn, hook and fiberfill.

Starting with myself, the amigurumis have helped me to improve my self-esteem and to cope with moments of great sadness or worry. They have been a distraction, a relief and on many occasions the necessary push that has prevented me from falling into discouragement.

Since I started this adventure, there have been many messages that I have received. Messages of all kinds, from daily consultations related to patterns, to thanks or congratulations, but without a doubt, the messages that move me most are those in which you make me a participant in the reasons that have led you to crochet amigurumis:
